RecordingWhat it is: You and/or your band come to my studio in Franklin Park, NJ; I put some microphones in front of you, and I capture the best possible performances of your music.
IMPORTANT: Before your recording session begins, your music must be fully written and rehearsed. Recording drums: I own a Roland electronic drum kit and excellent software drum libraries for use when recording drum parts. You are also welcome to bring your own acoustic drum kit if you prefer recording with it. |
Why you should hire me for recording: As much as I love making records, I'm a musician first and an engineer second. I've practiced music for over 25 years, and I know what makes a great performance when singing and playing a variety of instruments. I've always been able to get fantastic performances out of my clients, and I can do the same for you, even if it's your first time recording. On the technical side, I know which of my microphones work best for which instrument or singer, and I always record at volumes that don't overload mics but aren't too quiet either. Lastly, I don't believe in "fix it in the mix". I do everything I can to ensure your recording sounds as good as it can before I hit "record". You'll be happy with how good your tracks sound before you even leave the studio.
Why you should hire me for vocal tuning: Let me be blunt here: I'm very good at vocal tuning. I have perfect pitch, so I know instantly when something's in tune or not. This means when I tune your vocals I'm not reading numbers to judge sharpness or flatness, I can hear it. As a result your vocals sound clear, in key, and not mechanically locked to a note grid (unless that's what you want).
MixingWhat it is: I take all the recorded tracks of your song(s) and I balance, adjust volume and panning, compress, equalize, and add effects as needed to best suit your music.
What you get: Up to 2 mix revisions per song. This means I'll send you my mix, you either tell me you love it or tell me what you want changed, and you can do this up to 2 times for a possible total of 3 mix drafts. Note: Any additional drafts will cost $50 per mix. What is not included: This does not include picking the best takes of your recordings, editing performances together, or tuning vocals. I offer vocal tuning as a separate service; see above for details. |
Why you should hire me for mixing: I believe the most important part of a good mix is balance - being able to hear each element clearly and evenly, to the degree that works best for the song - and I always achieve this when I mix. I give recordings fullness, clarity, depth, vibe, and character, and the final product sounds great no matter what system you hear it on.
MasteringWhat it is: I take the final mix of your song(s) and make it "radio-ready". This means adding that final layer of polish, secret sauce, and studio magic to make your music ready for the public to hear. In the case of an album, mastering is also ensuring every song flows together nicely to make one cohesive record.
What you get: Up to 2 master revisions per song. This means I'll send you my master, you either tell me you love it or tell me what you want changed, and you can do this up to 2 times for a possible total of 3 master drafts. Note: Any additional drafts will cost $50 per master. |
Why you should hire me for mastering: Too many records these days are victims of what we call the "Loudness War"; records with little to no dynamic range that are over-compressed and squashed to death, and sound terrible as a result. My masters have plenty of healthy dynamics, with a clear audible difference between loud parts and quiet parts of the song. I also master with care, giving the mix only what's needed to sound its best, no more and no less. Best of all, my masters sound great at any volume, but especially when you turn it up.
